God Knows What You Need Before You Ask

Before We Begin

You've been trying to get God's attention. What if He's already had His eye on you the whole time?

Read

“Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.” Matthew 6:8 (KJV)

Think

Jesus drops this line almost as a footnote before teaching the Lord’s Prayer, and it’s easy to rush past it. Your Father already knows what you need before you ask.

If that’s true (and it is), then prayer isn’t a briefing session. You’re not updating God on your situation or making sure He has enough information to act. He had the full picture before you woke up this morning.

So why pray at all? Because you need the conversation even when He doesn’t need the update. There’s a difference between being known and being present with the One who knows you. A child doesn’t climb into her father’s lap to give him a status update. She climbs into his lap because she loves him and that’s where she belongs.

For women who have spent years performing for approval in every room they’ve walked into, this verse is genuinely disorienting in the best way. You don’t have to earn God’s attention or present yourself correctly before He’ll engage. He already sees you… the real version, the tired version, the one who doesn’t have the words today.

Just show up. That’s the whole assignment.

Apply

Today, try praying without a list. Just say what’s actually true, even if it’s only I don’t know what to say. God already has the details. What He’s after is you.

⛪️ Prayer

God, you are the One who sees before we speak and knows before we ask. Thank you that prayer doesn't have to be perfect to be heard.

For the woman reading this who has been performing for so long she's forgotten what it feels like to just show up, remind her today that your attention was never something she had to earn.

You already see her. You already know. Help her rest in that today.

We pray this trusting and believing in You. Amen.
